There are public libraries at both Tenbury and Bromyard. The Tenbury one is open Monday through Saturday; Bromyard is more limited - call 01885 482 657.

There is a mobile operating from Stourport. Call 01299 822 866. On the third Friday of each month it goes to: Kyre Nineveh at 10.00 - 10.10; The Oaks at 10.15 - 10.25; Rochford old post office at 11.50 - 12.10. On the third wednesday of each month - when else - the mobile library goes to: Eastham Puddleford Farm at 12.40 - 13.05; Astley Orchard 13.10 - 13.20; Marsh End at 13.25 - 13.35; Broadheath Park View at 14.15 - 14.25; Pool house at 14.30 - 14.40; Bell Lane Sunnyside at 14.45 - 15.10; Lodge farm 15.15 -15.25.

Rubbish

Rubish is collected on Thursdays for the Hanleys and Stoke Bliss, and Fridays for the rest. Black, purple, and plain clear plastic bags are provided. You are asked to sort your waste into paper, cloth, and light cardboard into the clear bags; plastics and metal into the purple bags; and the rest into the black bags. Purple and clear bags are picked up on alternate weeks.

Police stations are manned on a part time basis at Berrington Road, Tenbury, 01584 810 054; and at Bromyard, 01885 483 203. Calls are routed to other West Mercia police stations when these are not manned.

Elderly and Infirm

The age Concern Day Centre for the Elderly meets twice a week at Penlu, Worcester Road, Tenbury, which is beside the hospital. Referral is by GP or nurse. Volunteer helpers are welcome and needed. Age Concern local representative is David Spilsbury (01584 781 521), who will help with all elderly problems including advice and assistance on Social Services and benefits.

Children and Schools

Lindridge Primary School 01584 881 466. Children aged from 5 to 11. There is a pre-school play group.

Clifton Primary School 01886 812 258. Children aged from 5 to 11. There is a toddler group on Wednesdays 09.30-11.30. It has an after school club called Whiz Kids which runs from 3.00-6.00 pm.

Early years Centre, Clifton-upon-Teme 01886 812 380. It caters for all pre-scholl children from 3 months to over 5 years old, Monday through Friday, all year 7.30 am to 6.00 pm.

Tenbury Primary School 01584 810 234. Children aged from 5 to 11.. This school has a nursery section for children aged 3+, or children with special needs.

Great Witley Primary School 01299 896 246. Children aged from 5 to 11, but no pre-school or after school facilities. There is a play group in Great Witley Village Hall.

Secondary schools are in Tenbury and Bromyard. Contact the Worcester education department for more details. There are a number of good private schools locally.

Mothers and toddlers meet at Eastham Memorial Hall on Thursday from 10.00 to 12.00.

Scouts, Guides, Brownies, and Cubs all meet in either Tenbury, Clifton, or Bromyard.

Bouncy Castles and the like, try Toy city at Kyre Park.

Shopping

There are no shops in the villages within the Teme Valley South. The nearest towns are Tenbury Wells and Bromyard where most day to day commodities are available, and where there is excellent local produce. Village stores nearby include those at Clifton-upon-Teme, Great Witley, and Clows Top. For superstores and the brand name high street, you have a choice of Ludlow, Kidderminster, or Worcester.

Early closing in Tenbury is on Thursday; and in Bromyard, Tuesday.

Market days in Tenbury are on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Car parking in most of Tenbury is on a pay and display basis. However in Tenbury, parking by the swimming pool is free.

Main post offices are in Teme Street, Tenbury and Church Street, Bromyard. There are sub post offices at Clifton-upon-Teme, Great Witley, Upper Sapey, and Clows Top.

Banks. Lloyds TSB and Barclays are in Tenbury. Lloyds TSB, HSBC, and NatWest are in Bromyard. Various building societies are represented in both towns.

Leisure

Las Vegas, Teme Valley South ain't. However you can eat well at any of Ludlow's justly famous restaurents, or at any of the locality's excellent pubs. You can see more about this under the section on Go West. Meanwhile modest pleasure may be gained from the following.

Tenbury Swimming Pool is in the Tenbury car park. The timetable of sessions is too complicated to relate, but there are swimming lessons for children, and mother and baby sessions. Telephone 01584 810 448.

Womens Institute. The Clifton-upon-Teme branch of the W.I. meet in the village hall on the third Tuesday of the month. Contact Dorreen MacLean on 01886 812 478. The Tenbury branch meets in the methodist school room in Cross Street, Tenbury on the first wednesday of every month. Contact Mrs. J. Whitehouse on 01584 810 390.

Friendship Club is held in the Clifton-upon-Teme vilage hall on the first and third Wednesday of each month. Contact Ann MacBryde on 01886 812 349.

The village halls. There are village halls at Eastham, Hanley, Kyre, and Rochford which are the focus of many activities. There are flower and vegetable shows, fetes, pig roasts, talks, coffee mornings. The parish magazine usually has details, and now you can see that online. The village halls are also available for private functions.

Eastham coffee morning, is on the first Wednesday each month from 10.30 to noon at the Eastham village hall. It includes a Traidcraft stall.

Transport

Naturally in such a rural area, public transport is not our strong point. Luckily the nearest fully commercial airport is a good hour and a half away at Birmingham International. Though note there is a threat of development at Hapenny Green, with flight paths as close as Witley. Regional train services are available at Ludlow, Kidderminster and Worcester, but if you want a full schedule to London and beyond, you may do best to avoid Worcester and go to Birmingham International.

Buses.There is patchy coverage of bus services. You can get a complete timetable from the Malvern Hills district council. There are also details of times and routes at the tourist information centre, Tenbury library, or directly from Yarranton Brothers Ltd. in Eardiston. Yarrantons are on 01584 881 229. Worcester county traveline is on 0870 608 2608.

Volunteer driver scheme. For those without transport or an available bus service TocH run a driver service. Contact Vince Taylor on 01299 405 820. Volunteer drivers are always welcome and badly needed.
