It is probably misleading to overstate the importance of the technology. Much more important is organisation. If you want to produce a similar site, the key is to dole out the work amongst many people. This avoids dependence on a critical individual, and means no single person has an unbearable work load.
That said, our use of Inrax allows us to support a variety of roles in creating the site. We separate responsibilty for design from that for content. For content we separate editorial control from those who just contribute content. All this is underpinned within Inrax by a sophisticated permission and access structure.
Inrax was designed with the small organisation or business in mind. It will not only help manage the web site content, but can also be used for ecommerce, online accounting and stock control. Even though this is relatively sophisticated software, a not for profit organisation should be able to afford it. The licence does not limit the number of users, and there is a low monthly subscription.
Temework are using the technology to support trading between local food producers and growers, and their local customers. It supports ordering the food and paying for it online. It handles the notification of the order to the supplier and helps organise the physical delivery to the doorstep. Then it provides the online accounting to ensure everyone gets paid and the business is monitored.
